U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on Saturday warned officials in the embattled Central African Republic not to repeat the mistakes that led to the Rwanda genocide 20 years ago.

The United States will send more missile defense ships to Japan, Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel said on Sunday, as part of an effort to bolster protection from North Korean missile threats.

Obama congratulates Afghan voters on high election turnout

President Barack Obama on Saturday praised the high turnout of voters in the first democratic transfer of presidential power in Afghanistan’s history.

Increased violence ahead of the elections threatened to keep voters home, but long lines at polling centers across the country showed the determination of the Afghan people to have their voices heard.
